The Arizona Cardinals odds of winning the NFC West were at slightly better than 2/1 for a payout potential of $230 on every $100 bet.  The odds to win Super Bowl 52 were set at 36/1.

New Look Cardinals Defense Could Dominate

Arizona lost five critical pieces to their defense: Defensive tackle Calais Campbell, safety Tony Jefferson, cornerback Marcus Cooper, safety D.J. Swearinger and linebacker Kevin Minter.  This was no small loss.  The Cardinals ranked number two in total defense last season.

Somehow Arizona managed to fill in the missing pieces during the off season.

Returning are Chandler Jones and Markus Golden, who had more combined sacks (23½) than any other pairing in the league.  Cornerback Patrick Peterson and a Defensive Player of the Year candidate in 2016, Tyrann Mathieu, also return.

Deone Bucannon is still recovering from an ankle injury suffered during the offseason while defensive tackle Robert Nkemdiche, safety Budda Baker and inside linebacker Haason Reddick look to resume greater roles in 2017.

“I’ve felt great about this defense since the spring,” Arizona head coach Bruce Arians said during a recent press conference. “The additions of Karlos and Antoine, and then the draft picks – we should be much, much better defensively.”

The Cardinals season wins total was listed at 8.5 with the OVER priced at -105 and the UNDER -115.  The OVER 8.5 -105 is a terrific value here.

To be clear, the Michigan quarterback J.J. McCarthy is pretty certain to land in Minnesota.  But what if the New England Patriots shock us and pick McCarthy at Number 3 before the Vikings get their opportunity at No. 5?
