World Cup Ghana vs. USA

This World Cup Ghana vs. USA preview is courtesy of SBG Global where the line on this game was +150 in favor of Team USA.  The payout would be US$15 for every US$10 bet.  Ghana pays US$17, which indicates that the oddsmakers at SBG believe this game can go either way.  As would be expected, nearly 90 percent of the betting public is on USA.  The draw pays 2/1 odds or US$20 on a US$10 bet.

Time of Ghana vs. USA game:  Saturday, 2:30 pm Eastern - ABC

The United States will try and recover from an emotional win over Algeria in the group stage as they face Ghana in the knockout round on Saturday World Cup game.  The U.S. doesn't have much time to recover after perhaps the greatest win in their history.  Landon Donovan scored in stoppage time to give the U.S. a 1-0 win over Algeria on Wednesday and a berth in the round of 16.  Now the U.S. will try and go further as they face Ghana on Saturday in a match that can be seen on ABC.

The only African team to make the round of 16 was Ghana. They finished second in Group D behind Germany. The Black Stars did just enough in that group to advance although they didn't score many goals. In fact, they scored just two goals in their group matches, winning 1-0 over Serbia and playing to a 1-1 draw with Australia.  Ghana is trying to become only the third African team ever to make the quarterfinals as Cameroon made the last eight in 1990 while Senegal did it in 2002. This could be a low scoring match on Saturday. Ghana has not scored more than one goal in their last 13 International matches.  Head coach Milovan Rajevac realizes that his team must create more chances against the United States if they expect to win.

Ghana eliminated the United States four years ago, winning 2-1.  If the United States gives up the first goal on Saturday, that could be the result again.  Ghana plays very solid defense so the U.S. cannot afford to have to come from behind.  The United States has been very resilient in their recent matches but their energy level may not be enough to win this futbol/soccer match if they fall behind.  Scoring the first goal against Ghana is absolutely essential if the U.S. wants to win.

The United States has the better offense with Donovan, Jozy Altidore and Clint Dempsey but the defensive edge goes to Ghana. The U.S. can claim the better goaltender though in Tim Howard. He may be the difference in this match. Ghana has Richard Kingson and although he played very well against Germany he could be the weak link in Ghana's defense.
