Kris Allen Wins American Idol

American Idol Winner Kris Allen

In a shocking upset, underdog Kris Allen has knocked off the big favorite to win this season's American Idol, Adam Lambert.

"Adam deserves this," the very humble newly crowned Idol from Arkansas said.  He could hardly hold back the tears.

At one point just a few weeks ago, Allen was a double digit underdog with the payout $1200 for every $100 bet at Sportsinteraction.com.  Heading into Tuesday night's show, Allen was still the underdog, paying $200 for every $100 bet.

"It's going to be a really tight race," says Chris Costigan, president of Gambling 911.com, in an interview with the New York Post.  He added that Danny Gokey's fans were most likely to vote for Kris now.  And that appears to have occurred.

Deborah Starr Seible of the Post wrote that Allen, 23, has been quietly sneaking up the leader board. He has been impressive playing guitar and keyboards, most notably during his original acoustic rendition of Donna Summer's "She Works Hard For The Money."

"There are some unbelievable singers every year, like [David] Archuleta and Lambert, who start at the top and stay there," says "Idol" associate musical director, Michael Orland. "Then there are the ones that come out of nowhere, like Kris Allen.

One hundred million votes were cast on this season's American Idol finale.

what a joke

Americans could vote for a black man for president but not a gay american idol. HAHAHAHAHAHA

I agree.Adam will go much

I agree.Adam will go much further with his career.

american idol pick

America got it wrong as with Hicks, and several others who lost their contracts. This guy can be "pitchy" dude. He doesn't have the range, and would be best singing with peter, paul and mary. Must have been a bunch of tweens voting for this guy

American Idol... SNAFU

I agree, America got it wrong! There is no way Allen will ever hold a candle against Adam Lambert! As he correctly stated upon his award.."this belongs to Adam!" Don't get me wrong, Allen is talented...however, in the end we will see who sells the records. I have visions of teenage girls with their cell phones texting in for Allen over Lambert because he's such the American pretty boy while Lambert is a polished, entertainer and sings with more heart...come on folks...who actually pulled off a Freddy Mercury song tonight...clearly, the winner, Adam Lambert. I will be waiting in line for your first record Adam - you are my idol...definitely! Can't wait to see what you do next!!! Archuleta got hosed last year, this years it's you...I am sorry my friend!
