If you are using DraftKings, FanDuel, BetMGM or any other regulated mobile sports betting app from the great state of Illinois, you will not be able to bet Saturday's Rockets-Fighting Illini game using one of those apps.  That's because regulated sportsbooks in the state prohibit wagering on in-state schools.  There are other options such as betting with an internationally licensed online sportsbook or a local bookie.

The demand for this particular game is quite high.

As of Wednesday, Toledo vs. Illinois was ranked among the top 10 most wagered on games for Saturday's slate.

The Fighting Illini were coming in as the -9.5 favorite with the line having moved up from -8.5.  Betting action was balanced on both sides for the most part.

Luke Altmyer will be the starting quarterback for the Fighting Illini.

Altmyer transferred to Illinois in January after two seasons at Mississippi, where he started one game and appeared in three others last season. He beat out Ball State graduate transfer John Paddock and Donovan Leary for the Illini job.

He was a consensus four-star recruit in 2021 out of Starkville, Mississippi.

Illinois is favored to win OVER 6.5 regular season games in 2023.

The Illini are picked fourth in the Big Ten West in the preseason media poll. Last season they were 8-5 and tied for second in the West at 5-4 — their most overall and conference wins since 2007.

To be clear, the Michigan quarterback J.J. McCarthy is pretty certain to land in Minnesota.  But what if the New England Patriots shock us and pick McCarthy at Number 3 before the Vikings get their opportunity at No. 5?
