It looks like it’s finally going to happen. After twice having a scheduled fight scrapped, the welterweight title bout between champ Kamaru Usman (17-1) and Gilbert Burns (19-3) will serve as the main event for UFC 258 from the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. To get fans and the betting public pumped for the main event 11 other fights are scheduled on the ticket, including what should be an entertaining five-fight main card.  Bookmaker.eu offers a generous CASH welcome bonus (max bonus $1600)

The ticket lost a pivotal bantamweight bout that was scheduled between contenders Pedro Munhoz and Jimmie Rivera. However, the main event should more than make up for it. Usman makes his third title defense and fights for the first time since last July when he dominated Jorge Masvidal. Usman is a big -285 favorite on the current betting line, but faces a stiff test in Burns, who’s won six straight fights. Last time out Burns posted a unanimous decision over former champ Tyron Woodley and he’s now the leading contender in the division.

A women’s flyweight bout between Maycee Barber (8-1) and Alexa Grasso (12-3) serves as the co-main event on the ticket. Barber’s ascent within the promotion was put on hold early last year when she suffered the double whammy of a loss to Roxanne Modafferi and a torn ACL that shelved her for the remainder of 2020. Barber makes her return to the octagon against Grasso, who debuted in the division last summer with a convincing win over Ji Yeon Kim.

If champ Israel Adesanya makes the jump in weight class the middleweight division will have a spot to fill. And it also gives fighters a chance to move up the hierarchy. There is an opportunity on Saturday when Ian Heinisch (14-3) takes on Kelvin Gastelum (16-6) in a main card middleweight bout. Gastelum dropped his last three fights but is still a heavy -225 favorite to return to the win column.

Kamaru Usman (17-1, 7 KOs, 1 SUB) vs. Gilbert Burns (19-3, 6 KOs, 8 SUBs)

Even though their last two scheduled fights were postponed, these two combatants are very familiar with each other as former teammates and training partners. Does that give either of them an advantage? Probably not, but it’s an interesting note anyway. Usman is a perfect 12-0 in the UFC and is riding a 16-match winning streak overall. He hasn’t lost a fight since May 2013. Usman won the title with a unanimous decision over Tyron Woodley in 2019 and successfully defended the strap against Colby Covington and Jorge Masvidal. Burns has risen to top contender on the strength of six consecutive wins. An ascent that’s more remarkable considering he started his UFC career at 6-3. This could be Usman’s toughest bout yet. Both fighters are strong on their feet and they try to negate their opponents attack. Burns is bigger and stronger giving him an advantage if the fight plays out that way.

UFC Pick: Gilbert Burns / Decision

Maycee Barber (8-1, 5 KOs, 2 SUBs) vs. Alexa Grasso (12-3, 4 KOs, 0 SUBs)

Barber was on the fast track to becoming the youngest UFC champion. That is until last year. Not only did Barber suffer her first loss, she injured a knee that put her on the shelf until now. So it’ll be interesting to see if she can continue performing like she did prior to the loss to Roxanne Modafferi. She earned three straight stoppage wins and was a perfect 8-0 prior to that setback. Any anxiety about getting into the octagon for the first time in over a year will be problematic for Barber. Grasso is an aggressive fighter and appears to have found her place in the flyweight division. She had issues making weight at the lower level, but looked confident in her divisional debut unanimous decision win over Ji Yeon Kim.

UFC Pick: Alexa Grasso / (T)KO / 2nd Round
