Biden administration asked to reject gambling deal

ROLLING THE DICE — “No Casinos calls on Biden administration to reject Florida gambling deal,” by POLITICO’s Gary Fineout: Florida lawmakers signed off on the deal during a special session last month. No Casinos, a group that successfully convinced voters in 2018 to approve limits on casino gambling, has sent a lengthy list of objections to the U.S. Department of Interior, which is responsible for approving Florida’s gambling deal. No Casinos points out how the deal could ultimately help former President Donald Trump get a gambling license for his resort hotel in Doral. “Its legal flaws are so evident, that many members of the Florida Legislature admitted while voting for it that it ran afoul of state and federal laws,” wrote John Sowinski, president of No Casinos to Bryan Newland, the Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for Indian Affairs.

On the clock — Christina Pushaw, a spokesperson for DeSantis, said that the compact has been submitted to the Department of Interior and that representatives from the governor’s office and the tribe have talked to federal authorities about “its contents and legality.” “We are optimistic for a quick approval,” Pushaw wrote in an email.  Source: Politico

Governor signs sports betting bill

Louisiana's governor has now signed a pair of sports-betting bills into law Tuesday, putting the Pelican State on track to start accepting wagers this football season.  A handful of parishes have declined the option through a voter referendum and will have to be geofenced off from the rest of the state when mobile wagering launches.

How NBC Sports is integrating betting content into NASCAR broadcasts

Viewers of NBCSN‘s coverage of the Ally 400, the network‘s first NASCAR broadcast of 2021, saw betting elements interspersed during the pre-race show and the race itself.

As Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Brad Paisley kicked off pre-race coverage on “Countdown to Green,” betting odds ran across the ticker on the bottom of the screen, along with Sunday‘s lineup, Cup Series standings, and factoids about drivers and Nashville Superspeedway.

The right side of the ticker served as promotional real estate for NBC, as teasers for the NBC Sports Predictor app (including a free-to-enter NASCAR pick ‘em game with a $100,000 jackpot) and NBC Sports Edge (which provides fantasy and gaming analysis across a number of sports, including NASCAR) ran concurrent with promos for the U.S. Open, Stanley Cup Playoffs and Olympics.

‘One of the things we’re cognizant of is not all of our fans want to see betting content as they’re watching a race,” said Joe Solosky, managing director of sports betting at NASCAR. “We don’t want to oversaturate and draw fans away from the sport because we’re putting too much betting content out there, and I think FOX and NBC are doing a good job of towing that line.” Source: MSN
