Glenn Close Oscar Loss Among Biggest Upsets Ever

Best Picture favorites have regularly lost throughout the years but a 1/7 Best Actress favorite the likes of Glenn Close have not.

This year was different.

Turns out Olivia Colman, not Glenn Close, was “The Favourite” at the Oscars.  Colman paid better than 3/1 odds as a result.

The British actress was a surprise winner as best actress on Sunday night for her role as Queen Anne in “The Favourite.” She beat out Close, who arrived at the Dolby Theatre as the heavy favorite to win her first Oscar in seven nominations for “The Wife.”
Instead, a stunned Colman took the stage.

She gazed at Close in the audience and said, “You’ve been my idol for so long and this is not how I wanted it to be.”
Close smiled and laughed.

Another upset was Green Book winning Best Picture at +350 odds.  Roma was the favorite but many experts believed Green Book could pull that one off.
