Florida State Lottery Being Sued for Refusing to Pay Prize

A Florida woman is suing the State of Florida for $500,000 after she claims she won the lottery but the state refuses to pay her. 

Joe and Annemarie Curcio of Ocala thought they won money on Mother's Day three years ago when they matched two numbers on a $20 "Gold Rush" scratch-off ticket.  They then drove to Tallahassee, the state capital, and received some unwelcome news.

Ireland Will Impose Tax on Internet Gambling

Ireland says it will start taxing Internet gambling establishments operating overseas and catering to Irish citizens.

"This will have the additional benefit of facilitating the extension of the tax regime for the betting industry to all those providing online and telephone betting and so underpin funding for the racing industry," said Brian Cowen, Irish Head of Government.

Ireland claims that this step is needed in order to secure funding for the racing industry.

Betfair Pulls Out of France

With new online gambling laws in place and the European Union seemingly ineffective in getting France to follow set EU policy on i-Gaming, Betfair has pulled out of the French market. 

Betfair has announced its intention to stop accepting bets from France and is considering whether or not to make an application for a licence to operate under the new regime, IntergameOnline.com reports.

According to Betfair, there is little clarity on how the online gambling sector will operate in France.

Australian Sports Betting Scandals Continue With AFL
