In addition to earning his 12th World Series of Poker bracelet and thus extending his own world record, Phil Hellmuth also silenced critics who suggested the self-proclaimed “poker brat” could not win beyond Texas Hold’em.

Hellmuth spoke on the issue in his blog Monday immediately following the big win that had everyone in the poker community offering congratulations.

Early this morning, I wrapped up an intense World Series of Poker game against Don Zewin at the Rio. It was a close match, especially in the latter half, but in the end I walked away with my 12th World Series of Poker individual event championship bracelet! I'm thrilled to extend my record of most career bracelets, and would like to thank all the players for a solid game.

This is also my first win in a non-Texas Hold'em match. We were playing a seven-card stud variation of poker called Razz, where the goal of the game is to have the lowest hand possible. It was a lot of fun and a nice change of pace from my usual Hold'em bouts.
