Earlier this week we reported that there would be a single table WSOP Academy Tournament of Champions qualifier in which the winner would earn the last spot in the highly prestigious WSOP Tournament of Champions. The big tournament will feature just 27 of the top poker players and is one of the most sought after bracelets.

The qualifying tournament will be broadcast on the WSOP Academy website although it has already taken place. The winner, and therefore will be participating in the TOC is none other than Bertrand (Elky) Grospellier. Prior to this impressive showing, Elky has had a less than eye opening 2010 WSOP, only managing a single cash, a 91st place finish in a $1,500 no limit event. However, this accomplishment and entry into the TOC could potentially earn him far more respect and prestige.

The potential disappointment was that Tom "Durrrr" Dwan passed up on the opportunity to participate in this sit and go. Dwan instead chose to focus on trying to win a bracelet in the 2-7 Draw Lowball Championship event. Dwan reportedly has numerous bracelet prop bets and should he win one, will net him a score in the neighborhood of 8 figures. It would be a stretch to think he would risk missing that chance, although the TOC qualifier was held at time so as to not interfere with any of the other bracelet events.

In any case, Gavin Smith instead replaced Dwan in the lineup but was unable to capture the tile for his Pokerroad.com brethren.

Here is the order of finish of the participants:

1. Bertrand Grospellier
2. Michael Mizrachi
3. Paul Wasicka
4. Gavin Smith
5. Gus Hansen
6. Liv Boeree
7. Andy Bloch
8. Don Cheadle
9. Sorel "Imper1um" Mizzi
