Greg Merson is now over 20 million chips after doubling through Wilfried Harig in a straight-over-straight situation just prior to press time.

Merson is the only surviving player in the 2012 World Series of Poker Main Event who has won a bracelet in a previous event this year.  He won the Event #57: No-Limit Hold'em / Six Handed along with the  $1,136,197 that came with it.

The Laurel, Maryland resident was relatively unknown prior to that big win and suddenly he’s making a huge name for himself.

Merson, a one time business major at the University of Maryland, dropped out of college five years ago, at age 19, to pursue playing poker professionally.  His parents had no idea.

“They’re pretty old school, you know,” he said. “They are your pretty typical baby boomers. They thought it was crazy.”
