Tom Durrrr Dwan Poker Hall of Fame Nod Nonsense

The nomination of young Tom “Durrrr” Dwan to the Poker Hall of Fame raised many eyebrows in recent days. 

Dwan has had quite an impact on the poker world, mostly over the Internet, but many diehards would argue that he has hardly built up enough of a resume to even be considered for the Poker Hall of Fame. As of 2009, 38 people have been inducted into the Poker Hall of Fame. Fifteen of those people are still living.  At age 23, Dwan wouldn’t seem like the most logical of candidates.  

The Poker Hall of Fame Governing Council agreed.

A spokesman for the Poker Hall of Fame Governing Council released this statement: “With all due respect to Mr. Dwan, one of the games most exciting young players, he does not currently meet the criteria for Hall of Fame selection. We wish him well and expect he will again be considered once he has ‘stood the test of time.”

Dwan is also seen as reckless.  His side bets at this year’s World Series of Poker reportedly cost him millions.  Likewise, Dwan’s online success has not necessarily transferred over to the live tournament circuit.  His winnings in live tournaments over a stretch of 5 years is just over a million dollars.

Dwan did impress at this year’s World Series of Poker, coming in 2nd in Event #11 - WSOP No Limit Hold'em and taking home $381,885.

In 1979, Benny Binion, the owner of the Horseshoe Casino, created the Poker Hall of Fame to preserve the names and legacies of the world's greatest poker players.

Before starting the 2009 WSOP, the WSOP Commissioner Jeffrey Pollack announced that the process for becoming a member into the Poker Hall of Fame would undergo a slight modification. Starting in 2009, the Poker Hall of Fame started accepting nominations from the public.  Herein is where Dwan does stand a chance of getting inducted.  He is among the most popular searches at the Gambling911.com websites among poker players.  

One of the requirements though is Standing the Test of Time and Dwan hasn’t been around long enough to meet that requirement.

The Poker Hall of Fame Governing Council decision was a “no brainer”.
