CoinBase Hit With Lawsuit Over Hacked Accounts

Digital currency exchange CoinBase has been hit with a class action suit following a widely publicized hacking earlier this year.  The suit, filed in the US District Court for the Northern District of California, lists Adam Alfia as the plaintiff.

Hackers stole from the accounts of at least 6,000 customers of Coinbase Global Inc (COIN.O), according to a breach notification letter sent by the cryptocurrency exchange to affected customers.

The hack took place between March and May 20 of this year, according to a copy of the letter posted on the website of California's Attorney General.

The suit names Coinbase Global Inc (NASDAQ: COIN) and up to 50 as-yet unnamed executives and employees as defendants over data breaches.

Yesterday, CoinGeek reported that Dr. Craig Wright has advised a number of cryptocurrency exchanges they may be in violation of using the Bitcoin name.  CoinBase was among the recipients of that notice, according to CG.  Wright has long claimed to be the co-founder of Bitcoin and a Miami jury is set to make this determination by month's end.
