Phil Hellmuth Taking Part in Canadian Open Poker Championship

Phil Hellmuth heads to the Canadian west for major heads-up event on Canadian Poker Tour. The UltimateBet pro will also receive Calgary's White Hat honor while in town.

Don't be surprised if you see Phil Hellmuth sporting a pair of cowboy boots this month. The UltimateBet Pro is slated to stampede his way to Calgary, Canada for the 2009 Canadian Open Poker Championship next week. Hellmuth will be playing in the Main Event, a heads-up Texas Hold'em tournament, which gets underway on May 14th at the Stampede Casino.

The $5,000 buy-in tournament is part of a weeklong stop on the Canadian Poker Tour that includes satellites to the Main Event, a Pot Limit Omaha tournament, and three additional No Limit Hold'em events, all in the heart of the Canadian West.

Regardless of how high Hellmuth finishes in the Texas Hold'em tournament, the UltimateBet pro is destined to leave Calgary as a respected champion. Hellmuth will be honored in Calgary with the city's signature White Hat Award.

The Calgary event kicks off just before Hellmuth heads to Las Vegas for this year's World Series of Poker.
