It came down to the two big names at the final table of the 2009 Irish Poker Open.  Ultimately Sweden poker pro, Christer Johansson, defeated the United Kingdom's Kara Scott.  Johansson took home a whopping €600,000.

He defeated Ms. Scott, a journalist, with a pair of kings.

"I'm very happy to win this tournament," Johansson (38) said. "Not just for the prize money, but this tournament has a very long history in Europe and a great atmosphere, so it is great to win."

Not that Kara Scott had anything to cry about.  She left with a cool €312,600.

"It feels great," she said. "It's a hell of a lot of money. It's an amazing result for me. . . but even still, I'm gutted not to have won."

Johansson has now won over 2 million dollars in live poker tournaments to date.

In February 2003, Johansson won the World Poker Tour (WPT) first season Grand Prix de Paris event, taking home the €500,000 first prize after defeating a final table including Allen Cunningham and Tony G.

In September 2005, Johansson finished 2nd in the European Poker Tour (EPT) second season Barcelona Open, outlasting both Patrik Antonius and Gus Hansen at the final table.

He and Scott were the only big names sitting at the final table of the 2009 Irish Poker Open.

Kara Scott was the host of the first televised backgammon series, High Stakes Backgammon, produced from the 2005 World Backgammon Championships for Game TV in Canada and Pokerzone in the UK. Kara also hosted the first series of "World Series of Backgammon",® link title in 2006 which aired across Europe on Eurosport, Poker Channel Europe and Game TV in Canada.

The record field generated a prize pool of over €2.2millon which was shared by the top 70 finishers in the competition.
