Following a long bout with cancer, poker pro Chad Brown has passed away at the age of 52.

Brown died at 1:15 am Wednesday morning at Calvary Hospital Hospice in the Bronx, New York.

He had been diagnosed three years ago with liposarcoma, a very rare form of cancer. Brown had undergone five surgeries in addition to radiation treatments and various chemotherapies.

The poker pro won $3.6 million in live tournaments over the years, cashing out on 38 different occasions.  Over this past weekend he received an honorary gold bracelet.

The tributes started rolling in on Twitter early Wednesday morning, none more poignant than that of fellow poker pro and Brown’s one-time wife Vanessa Rousso.  The two remained close to the very end.
Rousso tweeted:
Unfortunately @Downtownchad has passed this evening. He touched so many during his lifetime and will live on within them. I love you Chad.
Brown had also worked as a model and played minor league baseball.
