Day four has ended here at the Marvelous Hard Rock Hotel and Casino Punta Cana with Matthew Weber being crowned champion of the Main event. Matthew bested 380 other players and walks away with $135,475. Matthew is the first non-Canadian champion of the Punta Cana Poker Classic

The last nine runners came to day 4 with the faith of winning the title but one by one failed to do so.  The afternoon went quickly with players being eliminated right in the first level of the day. The first elimination of the day was Tim Barany, then the chip leader of day 2 Nicola Baseli was the next eliminated player.  AmericasCardroom player Fred Swart got eliminated before second hour of play. Fred won a series of freerolls in the online poker room and after that he did not look back until he made the final table. Billy Kontaratos and Gabriel Zacalik were next.

Soon play slowed down though with the majority of preflop raises stealing the blinds and antes. Zack Cooke was eliminated in 4th place. The next player to hit the rail was Eric Grenier (3rd). The two remaining players both knew what it was like to be where they were. Both Matthew Weber and Kelly Kellner have been runner ups in different events. Heads up play began with both players fairly even in chips, but a couple of hands put Matthew in front, and he was able to ride that all the way to victory.

Matthew Weber owned the 2012 Punta Cana Poker Classic. He was the big stack on Day 1B, top 3 in day 2 and he finished day 3 in pole position as well.  He never looked back and outlasted all 380 players.

Congratulations to Matthew Weber on winning the Punta Cana Poker Classic Main Event.
