Gambling911.com has learned that legendary poker pro Amarillo Slim is in his final hours and was expected to pass very shortly.  Fellow poker pro Doyle Brunson broke the sad news on his Twitter page.

“Just found out Amarillo Slim is at death's door.”

Gambling911.com first broke the news that the 83-year-old had been in hospice care, expected to live just a few more days.

Slim, whose real name is Austin Preston, Jr., did not live a perfect life but we won’t dwell on that here.

There is no question Preston’s contribution to the world of poker.

He won the main event at the 1972 World Series of Poker and was inducted into the Poker Hall of Fame in 1992.

Preston has four World Series of Poker bracelets with his most recent win in 1990.
