Week 3 NFL Pick

Stan Simmons of BetOnline.com is all over the Carolina and Cam Newton with his Week 3 NFL pick.

“In a game between a pair of rookie quarterbacks, take Newton to put on a better show at home against Gabbert and the Jaguars, although the running games may be the bigger story. The team that establishes that part of their offense will come away with the win, and the duo of Williams and Stewart haven’t gotten going on the ground due to Newton, so expect the Panthers to be more balanced. Look for the Panthers to cover the spread this weekend.”

That spread is -3.5 at BetOnline.com.

Despite Carolina coming into this one 0-2, they have played quite well.

Simmons added:  “Carolina can take pride in their effort against the Packers and that should carry over this week. They need to re-establish the run with Stewart and DeAngelo Williams to take some of the pressure off Newton.”

Can we trust a sportsbook to give reliable picks?

Simmons does note that Jacksonville dismantled Carolina back in 2007 (the last time they met) when both were much better teams.

Two stats that stand out against the Jaguars include:

They are 2-6 Against The Spread in their last 8 games as a road underdog of 3.5-10.0.

The Jaguars are 3-9 ATS in their last 12 games after allowing more than 30 points in their previous game.

Xavier Worthy = Tyreek Hill 2.0?  Perhaps, and if that comes to fruition at any point in the future, the Bills only have themselves to blame.

J.J. McCarthy Drafted Number 3 Odds to Patriots

To be clear, the Michigan quarterback J.J. McCarthy is pretty certain to land in Minnesota.  But what if the New England Patriots shock us and pick McCarthy at Number 3 before the Vikings get their opportunity at No. 5?
