Poker pro Daniel “Jungleman12” Cates was denied entry to Canada and then deported for failing to have a visa last week.

He tweeted:

“Apparently I need a visa to play poker for a living in Canada? Wtf? Anyone know about the immigration laws here?

“In a ridiculous twist, I have been deported from Canada for being an illegal immigrant... Going to Seattle tomorrow to try to get temp visa.”

Cates, like a number of poker pros, was attempting to relocate from the United States to Canada where he could once again play on the world’s largest online poker site PokerStars.

One could apply for a basic permit to work in Canada, however, Cates said he would likely move to another country besides Canada.
