The NFL may be looking at ways to stop New Jersey from moving forward with its attempts to have sports betting legalized in that state.  The carrot in this case will be to offer a Super Bowl at the Meadowlands in 2014.

The NFL has temporarily waived a requirement that Super Bowl sites must either have temperatures above 50 degrees in February or have a domed stadium.

"The only reason for the ‘temporary' suspension of their weather requirements: to entice NJ's government away from its move toward legalized and state-regulated sports betting," claims one industry insider who declined to be named.

The Senate Economic Growth Committee, on a 6-0 vote, approved legislation sponsored by Sen. Paul Sarlo, D-Wood-Ridge, and Sen. Thomas Kean Jr., R-Westfield.

"The Meadowlands will be home to the NFL's newest stadium in its biggest market," Sarlo said. "It would be crazy not to put the biggest football game of the year on the league's biggest and best stage."
