In an exclusive interview with Gambling911.com’s Senior International Correspondent Jenny Woo, Congressman Barney Frank (D-Mass) said he was confident about his online poker legislation passing but stressed that the American people would have much influence on this happening.

“Your audience should know this – what’s more important than my estimate of the chances is the fact that they (the readers) can affect those chances,” Frank said.  “If a whole lot of people who resent being told by the government that they can’t do what they want to do – they need to call their Representatives and Senators and then it (the legislation) will pass this year.”

The Congressman expressed much optimism about the bill passing through the House but advised Gambling911.com, the Senate could be a bit tougher.

“You know with the Senate, you can never be sure because of the Republicans filibuster.”

Hence, the reason he points out the need for support from the online poker community.

Barney Frank's HR 2267 looks to amend title 31, United States Code, to provide for the licensing of Internet gambling activities by the Secretary of the Treasury, to provide for consumer protections on the Internet, to enforce the tax code, and for other purposes.

Woo’s full interview with Barney Frank will be published shortly.
