Taj Mahal Workers Furious Over Icahn Plans to Save Casino

ATLANTIC CITY N.J. (Reuters) – Hundreds of unionized workers lashed out at Carl Icahn on Friday, picketing the Trump Taj Mahal Casino where the billionaire activist seeks to terminate health-care and pension plans.

Members of UNITE HERE Local 54 picketed the Atlantic City casino a week after bankruptcy court approved a $US100 million plan by Icahn, who holds the mortgage to the property, which hinges on benefit cuts and tax concessions from city and state governments.

Joey Merlino, Ex-Mob Boss, Gets 4 Months For Meeting Friend

PHILADELPHIA (Associated Press) — A reputed former mob boss was ordered back to prison Friday for violating parole, and his lawyer complained that the FBI would pursue his client "to the grave."

Joseph "Skinny Joey" Merlino, the reputed head of Philadelphia's La Cosa Nostra in the 1990s, must serve four additional months for failing to report a meeting with a former co-defendant at a Boca Raton, Florida, cigar bar.

Judge Issues Temporary Restraining Order to Stop Sports Betting in NJ

U.S. District Court Judge Michael Shipp issued his ruling on whether New Jersey will be able to offer sports betting beginning this weekend at Monmouth Park racetrack.  The decision was made shortly after 4:50 pm ET.  The judge issued a temporary restraining order that would prevent that track and other venues from offering sports betting in the immediate future.

‘Simpsons’ Sued for $250 Million Over ‘Goodfellas’ Character

Frank Sivero has filed a lawsuit against the long running primetime animated series "The Simpsons" claiming they based the character Louie off of his "Goodfellas" character.

The suit claims that it was Sivero who created the Louie character and, as such, he should be fully compensated.

Ladbrokes Sees 94pc Jump in Profits

Ladbrokes has been struggling to keep pace with market leader William Hill  in the growing online gambling market and Glynn's position has appeared under threat.

The impact of the football World Cup helped to boost operating profit to 33 million pounds in the three months to the end of September, almost double the equivalent figure of 17 million in 2013.

"The changes and the investments we made in the business are starting to be reflected in the results," Glynn told Reuters, saying the company was "on track" for full year targets.

‘The Gambler’ Trailer Released: Mark Wahlberg Film Due Out December 19

Poker Icon Nolan Dalla Goes Off the Deep End

Nolan Dalla went off the deep end this week and the reason: Dan Colman.

Dalla questioned how a young man who has won over $21 million in the past few months could be so down on poker.

“Dan Colman has said poker is wrong, it’s self-destructive,” Dalla says.

And he’s right.

After winning the Big One for One Drop poker event and the $15,306,668 that went with it, Colman showed little in the way of any enthusiasm.  Later Colman told the media he did not want to promote poker because “most people lose”.

Ex-Palms Sportsbook Employee Charged in Bet-Rigging Gets Probation

LAS VEGAS — (Associated Press) - A former Las Vegas casino worker was sentenced in federal court to probation and must pay restitution for his role in what authorities say was an $800,000 betting fraud scheme.

Matthew Kidle, 31, apologized before sentencing Monday by U.S. District Judge Jennifer Dorsey in Las Vegas, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported.

11 Reputed Mobsters Arrested, Reaped Millions From Sports Betting, Loansharking

11 reputed mobsters from the New Jersey/New York area were arrested on Tuesday, charged with loansharking, sports gambling, unlicensed check-cashing and money laundering. 

All but one of the individuals resided in New Jersey.  The other was arrested in New York City. Each of the individuals is alleged to have connections to the Genovese crime family.

55 Percent of NJ Respondents: Sports Betting Would be Bad For AC

In a recent poll of New Jersey residents conducted by Rutgers-Eagleton it was discovered that only 7% of respondents had actually tried gambling on one of the state’s regulated online gambling sites and only 5% said the activity was good for Atlantic City’s troubled gambling industry.

23% said online gambling made no difference for Atlantic City, and 17% said they were not sure.

Breaking News: 11 Reputed Mobsters in New Jersey Arrested for Sports Betting, More

NEWARK, New Jersey — Eleven reputed members and associates of a major New York-based organized crime family are facing charges in New Jersey.

Acting state Attorney General John Hoffman will announce details of the arrests during a news conference in Newark Tuesday.

The attorney general's office alleges the suspects reaped millions of dollars through loansharking, sports gambling, unlicensed check-cashing and money laundering.

The news conference was taking place at 11:30 a.m.
