The New Orleans Saints host the San Diego Chargers tonight in a potential Super Bowl matchup on CBS at 8:00 EDT. Both teams know each other quite well, especially star QB's Drew Brees and Phillip Rivers. The defending Super Bowl champions are looking forward to their defense, while the Chargers believe they finally will make the big game. New Orleans is a -3 point favorite tonight, with a total of 42.5 points expected.

The defending Super Bowl champions will be playing their last meaningful preseason game before the regular season begins. New Orleans has put up 62 PTS this preseason, proving that this years offensive edition is likely to be every bit as strong as last year. One troublesome thing occurring this year in camp however is the health of the running back corps. After finishing last year 6th in the NFL in rushing, it appears injuries are taking a toll on this rushing offense this preseason. QB Drew Brees is the unquestioned leader of this team, even if he's barely been on the field this preseason. The surprise QB out of camp this year is QB Chase Daniel. Daniel has thrown for 232 YDS, along with 3 TD's in route to a QB rating of 98.2.  The Saints have played to the over in both preseason games thus far, partly due to their defense. Their defense has given up 23.5 PPG this preseason thus far, something they aren't proud of.

The Saints are 1-1 both SU and ATS this preseason.

San Diego has taken on a new identity this preseason, after some enigmatic stars left the team last year. The Chargers have played both of their preseason games at home, looking good against the Bears while looking sluggish and disinterested against the Dallas Cowboys in defeat. The Chargers are looking forward to the challenge of playing against the defending Super Bowl champions. QB Phillip Rivers is anticipating a great game against good friend and former teammate QB Drew Brees. Rivers has thrown for 187 YDS this preseason, along with 1 TD and 1 INT for a QB Rating of 94.7. Backup QB Billy Volek has thrown for 171 YDS, yet has completed less than 50% of his passes. The defense of the Chargers has been sharp, far better than the offense has been. San Diego has only allowed an average of 13 PPG this preseason, a promising sign as the regular season draws near.

The Chargers are 1-1 both SU and ATS this preseason.

Pregame.com projects the final score to be 21-17 in favor of the New Orleans Saints. The Under 42.5 points is the Total of the Day!
