It may say on your schedule that the Buffalo Bills are the home team on Thursday night but their NFL preseason betting preseason game vs. the Indianapolis Colts actually takes place in Toronto, Canada.  The Bills don’t have much of a home field edge anyway so they may be better off in Canada. Buffalo is favored in this game, mainly because the Colts don’t have much in the way of quarterbacks after Peyton Manning leaves the game.

Buffalo is a 3.5 point favorite with a total of 33.5 at SBG Global.

The Colts looked good last week when Manning and the first string offense was in the game as they led 10-0 against San Francisco. When Curtis Painter and the backups came in, the team looked terrible and the Colts ended up getting routed 37-17.  Head coach Jim Caldwell has said that Painter still has the backup job even though he has not played well in his last two performances.  He was terrible last week against the 49ers when he threw three interceptions and in last year’s regular football betting season finale against Buffalo in a game that meant nothing for the Colts he was 4 of 17 for only 39 yards. Maybe the Colts shouldn’t have let backup Jim Sorgi get away after all. The Colts third string quarterback is Tom Brandstater and he wasn’t much better than Painter last week.

The Bills were even worse than the Colts as they were humiliated 42-17 by the Washington Redskins last week. Head coach Chan Gailey said that all areas on the team need improvement. The Bills have only had a winning record once in the last ten years and it is almost a guarantee they are going to have a losing record again in 2010. Buffalo has no quality talent at quarterback so it appears that Trent Edwards will get the job by default. He will start on Thursday against the Colts and be followed by Brian Brohm and rookie Levi Brown. Ryan Fitzpatrick will not play this week. The one positive for Buffalo is rookie running back C.J. Spiller. He is the teams first round draft pick and might already be their best player.  With Fred Jackson and Marshawn Lynch out with injuries, Spiller will get a lot of work on Thursday.

This will be the sixth all-time NFL betting preseason meeting between the two teams with the Colts holding a 3-2 edge. Their last meeting was two years ago when the Bills won 20-7.
