Miss Universe 2009 betting will take place throughout the weekend. This year's event takes place more than a month after previous Miss Universe pageants have been held.
"The event draws significant betting traffic to the Gambling911.com website," said Payton O'Brien, Senior Editor of G911. "It's definitely one of the most bet on television programs."
This year's favorite is Miss Australia, given +500 odds at BetUS.com. The payout would be $500 for every $100 bet. She is followed by Miss Mexico at +800 odds and three ladies tied for +1000 odds: Miss Dominican Republic (an annual favorite), Miss Ireland and Miss Czech Republic.
Miss USA came in at +1400 odds along with Miss Netherlands.
For the online gambling Mecca of Costa Rica, many of which have bookmakers placing odds on the event, their representative is among the big favorites, promising a payout of $1500 for every $100 bet, the same odds as Miss Puerto Rico.
Then there is Miss Venezuela.
"Venezuela to the beauty contests is like Brazil to football," says O'Brien. "The country is almost always favored."
Not this year. Miss Venezuela was listed with +4000 odds. The reigning Miss Universe is from Venezuela.
