While Oscar betting among U.S. residents online was expected to shatter all records this year according to current Gambling911.com search inquiry data, those living in India, Great Britain and Australia will also be getting in on the action thanks to some significant representation from each country.

Slumdog Millionaire is the big favorite to win "Best Picture" though the price tag was steep for punters - requiring at US$10 bet just to win US$1 at online gambling sites the likes of  Sportsinteraction.com, which accepts credit card and Neteller deposits.  Slumdog Millionaire takes place in Mumbai, India and features Indian stars, though the film itself was born out of Great Britain.

For the British looking to bet the Oscars, their best hope will be on Kate Winslet, who only requires a US$3 bet to win US$1 at Sportsinteraction.com (you get the $3 back and the $1 if Winslet wins).  She is the favorite and most pundits agree she'll be taking home the statuette as the 6th time becomes the charm.

Incidentally, should Kate Winslet cry while making her speech, Sports Interaction pays US$12.50 for every US$10 bet this happening.

For Australians, they'll be watching with bated breath to see their native son, Heath Ledger, take home the Oscar.  Outside of Slumdog Millionaire, Ledger is widely regarded as the biggest "lock" to win, perhaps the biggest in years.  This one is such a "lock" in fact that SIA won't even offer odds on the "Best Supporting Actor" category.

And let's not forget who is hosting this year's Oscars.  Hugh Jackman is a native son of Australia and there are widely reported rumors he may appear naked on the stage.  Calm down ladies!

You can actually bet on Hugh Jackman coming out as a wolverine - the payout US$250 on a US$10 bet.  Or that he'll get into a fight with Russell Crowe.  That one pays $US660 for every US$10 bet at Sportsinteraction.com.

Gambling911.com will be presenting Oscar betting coverage 24/7 right through Sunday night's airing (well into Monday across the globe).
