Paul Weller has won the BRIT Award.  Well, not so fast.

If a flurry of betting activity deemed "insider information" proves to offer an accurate prediction of which nominee will win the award, then Weller can be declared victorious.

Most of the major UK betting outlets have stopped taking bets on the BRIS Award.

The move comes after a flurry of bets were placed on Paul Weller to win the British Solo Male Artist award at various William Hill shops Sunday.

Each bet was around £50.

A panel of 1000 music industry professionals are asked to vote online.  Their votes are verified by an official body.

A BRIT awards spokesperson said that "Every precaution is taken to keep results under lock and key."

The BRIT Awards, often simply called The BRITs, are the British Phonographic Industry's annual pop music awards. The name was originally a shortened form of British or Britannia, but has subsequently become a "backronym" for British Record Industry Trust.

Paul Weller's double album 22 Dreams was released on 2nd June 2008 with "Echoes Round The Sun" as the lead single.  He is nominated for "best pop artist".
