A bill to allow sports betting passed in both the state house and senate but remains in neutral as Maine's Governor has optend not to sign off.
Gov. Janet Mills cited concerns over expanded gambling as her primary reason not to sign the measure.
Bookmakers have long thrived in the state with its population of just over 1.3 million.
Though Maine does not have any professional sports teams, residents generally support these New England teams:
Boston Bruins (hockey)
Boston Celtics (basketball)
Boston Red Sox (baseball)
New England Patriots (football)
New England Revolution (soccer)
New Hampshire has not just passed legislation to legalize sports wagering, that state's Governor signed off on it.
NEW: Consumers will soon be able to wager on sports in New Hampshire. Thanks to @GovChrisSununu’s signature, NH is now the 3rd previously non-gaming jurisdiction and 18th jurisdiction overall to authorize #sportsbetting. Our full statement: https://t.co/rtwWrtVIBC pic.twitter.com/y4245cxINt

The New Hampshire Lottery will oversee regulation of sports betting, and the law permits for the lottery to participate with its own games.
Because sports betting will become so mainstream in the state, there will be very high demand, and bookmakers are certain to benefit by providing credit and anonymity as well as a more competitive product. Nearly all Pay Per Head providers offer live in-play wagering and a significant menu of props. PPH Sportsbook companies typically do not impose a minimum on number of players. In fact, some proclaim a single player is enough to get individuals started with their own sportsbook.
Vermont has yet to act on sports gambling legislation.
