Sam Simon, creator of “The Simpsons’ animated television series and a fixture on the World Series of Poker scene in past years, disclosed he only has a few months to live.

The nine-time Emmy award winner was diagnosed with terminal colon cancer back in May and was told he only has 3 to 6 months to live.  Simon, 58, will be giving away his massive television empire to various charitable organizations that help animals and fight hunger.

"I get pleasure from it. I love it. I don't feel like it is an obligation," Simon said.

His Sam Simon Foundation in Malibu is worth $23 million.

On the live poker tournament circuit, Simon has enjoyed twenty-four cashes and four 1st place finishes.   In 2007, he cashed out at $39,445 in the World Series of Poker Main Event.
