The London Olympics Men’s Football odds to win gold have been sent in a tailspin following Spain’s shocking upset loss to Japan on Thursday, even before the ceremonies were set to begin.  WagerWeb.com had switched Spain’s odds from EVEN to 4/1.

Japan was suddenly propelled to 14/1 odds as a result of their 1-0 victory.

In the afternoon kick off, Spain fell to a goal from Yuki Otsu, who found the net in the 33rd minute.

The Spanish team recently won its second consecutive European Championship, to add to the 2010 World Cup won in South Africa.  While the Olympics squad will be without some of its talent that contributed to past victories, this Spain football team was still expected to be a force at this year's Olympics.  Indeed oddsmakers priced them just a bit behind Brazil prior to Thursday's loss.

The longer odds mean that Spain is favored by just one point ahead of Uruguay at 5/1.

Great Britain was coming in at 11/1 while Mexico was listed at 14/1.
