Weird Laws 101: Cops in Kansas Can't Have Sex During Traffic Stops

Bookmaking in the state of Kansas is technically against the law, but so too is shooting rabbits from a motor vehicle, catching a fish with one's bare hands and hitting a vending machine that stole your money.  We here at Gambling911.com believe the later should definitely be made legal, as we believe bookmaking should as well.  But if you thought these were bad, can you believe Kansas just outlawed police officers having sex during traffic stops?

Of course they shouldn't do it and we're not suggesting this is a bad law.

The new law more specifically bans sexual relations "during the course of a traffic stop, a custodial interrogation, an interview in connection with an investigation, or while the law enforcement officer has such person detained."

But the idea that none of this was apparently "illegal" prior to Thursday's passage of the new law has many scratching their heads.

Surprisingly, Kansas was among 33 states where consensual sex between police and people in their custody wasn’t a crime, The Wichita Eagle reported .

Democratic Rep. Cindy Holscher, of Olathe, introduced the bill in response to the case of Lamonte McIntyre, who spent 23 years in prison for a double murder he didn’t commit.

McIntyre was released last year after investigators determined the detective who arrested him had long coerced sexual acts from women in Kansas City’s black community, including McIntyre’s mother, by threatening to arrest them or their relatives. McIntyre’s mother said in an affidavit that she believed the detective targeted her son after she spurned his advances.
