With news that Republican US Presidential nominee Donald Trump has jumped in the lead according to a CNN national poll released Monday morning, the reaction was swift from oddsmakers who have cut the real estate mogul’s odds from +175 (week’s end) to +140 at some books.

Trump came out of last week’s GOP convention ahead of presumptive Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton with a 6-point rise, topping her 44% to 39% in a four-way matchup that includes Gary Johnson (9%) and Jill Stein (3%) and by three points in a two-way head-to-head, 48% to 45%.

CNN notes that there has not been as significant a convention bump since 2000.

National polls do not have a large enough sample to accurately reflect key battleground states such as Florida, Ohio and Pennsylvania.  Post-polls numbers from those states were not yet available.

Results from Public Policy Polling do show Trump catapulting into the lead in Ohio by three-points (42 percent to 39 percent).

Clinton’s odds have gone from 1-3 to as low as -187 since this time last month.

Political pundits suggest odds will likely tighten back up following this week’s Democratic convention.
