Poker News Briefs August 24

….California has put legalized online poker on hold.  There simply isn’t enough time to get any measure pushed by next month’s legislative deadline.

Senate President Pro Tem Darrell Steinberg (D-Sacramento) wrote a letter to both parties Monday saying the legislative calendar ends next month and that more time would be required to “get this right”.

“And it is imperative that we do so,” Steinberg wrote in the letter.

“It seems abundantly clear the issue is here to stay."

Meanwhile, New Jersey State Senator Raymond Lesniak intends to reintroduce his online gambling measure that includes poker and sports betting this Thursday.  He reportedly has added provisions that would make it unlawful to operate Internet gambling cybercafés.

….Poker player Brian Hastings has won the $2,200 buy-in WPT Regional Summer Splash Event #12, earning a cool $213,877 for his efforts.

391 players participated in the tournament.
