Kentucky Derby Horses That Run Best in Mud

There is a 50 percent chance of rain for the 2012 Kentucky Derby.  Below are some horses that run best in the mud.

Bodemeister zipped 5 furlongs in the mud the just other day.  Gotta love Bodemeister early on at +450 odds.

Likewise, Union Rags Delaware Park debut took place on the muddy track where he ended up with a win.  He was still listed at 4/1 but that price is likely to come down in the event of rain.

Gemologist, another of the solid Kentucky Derby contenders, breezed four furlongs in 50.39 over a muddy track at the Palm Meadows Training Center in Florida.

Went The Day Well, currently at 17/1 odds, may not have the best post position but has demonstrated he can run well on muddy tracks.

El Padrino at 13/1 odds has also shown he can run well in the slop.

Horses to avoid should rain approach:

Optimizer was bred for the synthetic track and probably would not fare well on slop.

I’ll Have Another performed poorly on the mud track of Saratoga.

Dullahan’s best races have come on polytrack or turf so we at Gambling911.com would suspect his value to drop should the rains move in.  We are still pretty high on Dullahan, rain or shine, but he does have a slight disadvantage should the track become muddy.
