Speaking before the Global Gaming Expo next week in Las Vegas, former NBA Commissioner David Stern is expected to proclaim his support for expansion of legal sports betting.

“It seems to be an inexorable march, and it’s time to come up with a strategy that gets the various stakeholders together and see what changes, if any, make sense,” Stern said in a recent phone interview.

Serving as Commissioner for 30 years, Stern spent nearly all of that time opposed to most forms of sports gambling, including on the NBA.  His predecessor, Adam Silver, was on board with sports betting practically at the start of his tenure.

The change of stance comes at a time when Daily Fantasy Sports has partnered with professional sports leagues and franchises.  Attorney Generals in states such as New York and Florida argue that Daily Fantasy Sports is a form of gambling.

The Global Gaming Expo is scheduled for Tuesday-next Thursday, Sept. 27-29, at the Sands Expo in Las Vegas.
