Costa Rica Based Bookmaker Platinum SB Shut Down by RCMP

The RCMP raided a Super Bowl party Sunday in Ontario and shut down the Costa Rican-based bookmaking operation Platinum SB in the process.

Police also seized $2.5 million during the raid.

The RCMP claims that 6 of the over 2300 people in attendance at the Le Parc Banquet Hall party had ties to the gambling operation and the mob.

“The people found within this gaming house were dispersed in an orderly fashion, while those profiting from this were arrested," said Supt. Paul Pedersen. "Six men have been arrested and charged with participating in a criminal organization and other gaming-related charges."

Canadian authorities seized the PlatinumSB.com website and posted the following message both in English and French:

The web site you are trying to access has been restrained by court order granted to the Attorney General of Ontario with the assistance of the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit (CFSEU).

Platinum SB was said to work exclusively through local agents when handling money transactions.

More than 400 officers took part in the raid.
