Woods and Hall of Famer Peyton Manning were installed as the favorite at BookMaker.eu to defeat Mickelson and Tom Brady. The golfers will play a mixed format of best ball and alternate shot with proceeds going to support COVID-19 relief efforts. The 18-hole, made for TV competition takes place on Sunday at 3 p.m. ET from Medalist Golf Club in Hobe Sound, Florida.

The Match: Champions for Charity
Date and Time: Sunday, May 24, 2020, 3 p.m. ET
Location: Medalist Golf Club, Hobe Sound, FL
Opening Golf Odds: Woods / Manning -185
The Match: Champions for Charity TV Coverage: TBS, TNT, truTV

It’s hard to argue with the ‘champions’ part of the title. Woods and Mickelson are the greatest golfers of their generation with a combined 126 PGA Tour victories and 20 major championships. They finished 1-2 in nine PGA tournaments with Lefty winning five of them. It hasn’t happened since the 2009 TOUR Championship when Mickelson shot a bogey-free 65 final round to win by three shots. Seeing these two go at it, even if it is an exhibition, is a thrill for golf fans.

Manning and Brady are better football players than golfers, but they aren’t too shabby on the links. They both regularly compete in pro-am events when their schedules allow. Manning’s scheduled opened up after he retired in 2016 following his second Super Bowl title. It appears as though six-time Super Bowl winner Brady has taken a liking to his new home in Florida. He gets to schmooze with some of the Tour’s best who make the F-L-A home.

Tiger Woods/Peyton Manning -185
Phil Mickelson/Tom Brady +146

Mickelson and Woods have been competing professionally for nearly a quarter of a century. They’ve supplied golf fans in particular and sports fans in general countless memories. Lefty has faltered recently missing the cut in four of his last six pro tournaments. When COVID-19 shut down the PGA Tour Lefty was No. 61 in the OWGR. There is something about playing against Tiger that apparently brings out the best in Mickelson, though.

Lefty was a heavy underdog when the two met in Vegas for The Match in November 2018. Playing from behind on 11 holes, Mickelson leveled the match winning Nos. 17 and 18 and went on to claim the winner-take-all prize on the fourth playoff hole.

Things have changed for Woods as well. Since the original confrontation he won his record-tying 82nd PGA Tour title and 15th major by claiming The Masters. He’s also climbed up the rankings to No. 11 in the world.

Now, what about the footballers? With more time on his hands Manning is a regular on the links. He boasts a better handicap than Brady and has teamed with Woods in the 2018 and 2019 Memorial Pro-Am. Brady has membership at some of the top courses, though I’m not sure if it’s because he’s a great golfer. While in New England he was a member of The Country Club at Brookline. Now in Tampa he plays at Seminole Golf Club.

The 18-hole match play event features a best-ball format on the front nine. Each player strikes his own ball with Brady and Manning getting three handicap strokes. The back nine will use a modified alternate shot format. All players tee off with teammates alternating shots from the selected tee shot. Also, if the match is tied after 18 holes play will be extended. Teams will use the alternate shot format from the 18th hole until a winner is decided.

Bet The Match: Champions for Charity at BookMaker

Well, we’ve got quite the foursome for this event. I’m sure the downtime during the coronavirus outbreak did wonders for the beat up bodies of Woods and Mickelson. And considering Tiger lost the last head-to-head, the competitive juices will be flowing. Woods also has a home course edge since Medalist is in his backyard. And Manning is a better golfer than Brady, so there’s another notch for the duo. Check back at BookMaker.eu for a complete list of props that will make watching and wagering even more exciting.

Iowa State: Are They The Underdogs To Look For In March Madness?

They may be defined as “underdogs” or “Cinderella teams”, a term that is usually saved for teams that have little to no chance of winning even a single game during the NCAA Tournament. Teams like Loyola Marymount (1990), George Mason (2006), Davidson (2008), VCU (2011), UConn (2014), and Loyola Chicago (2018) come to mind when conversations turn toward the most surprising tournament runs in recent memory.
