Geoff Ogilvy Continues With Strong Lead: Monday Finish Required

The CA Championship is headed for a Monday finish, the result of a long weather delay.

Threatening weather caused play to be halted early in the final round with the leaders through just two holes at Doral Resort's Blue Monster.

Competition resumed nearly three hours later but by then it was too late to have any hope of completing the round before darkness.

Australian Geoff Ogilvy continued to hold a four-shot lead after three holes. He was 17-under, while Englishman Graeme Storm and Australian Adam Scott were equal second at 13-under - also after three holes.

But Tiger Woods' seven-event winning streak was in grave jeopardy. He birdied the first two holes, but promptly bogeyed the next two to fall six strokes off the pace as his putting problems continued.

Earlier, Hartlepool's Storm carded a nine-under-par 63 when the weather-delayed third round was completed, coming home in 29 strokes, courtesy of an eagle and five birdies.

"I made the cardinal sin on the eighth hole of saying I'm putting great and the next thing I three-putt but I made everything coming in," said the 30-year-old former British amateur champion.

"To come back in 29 on a golf course like this is a massive confidence boost."

Tiger Woods Wife Wins World Golf Championships CA Championship, NCAA Basketball Tournament

Surely with March Madness getting underway on Thursday, College Basketball would have headlined every other sporting event.  The World Golf Championships CA Championship also teed off Thursday.  But it wasn't College Basketball or Golf that won out among Internet searches, it was none other than Tiger Woods Wife.

"For years now, whenever a major golf event that features Tiger Woods takes place, inevitably there will be thousands upon thousands of Internet searches for his beautiful wife, Elin Nordegren," explains Christopher Costigan, Publisher of Gambling911.com.

One of many pages on the site mentioning Ms. Nordegren, received over 10,000 unique visits in just a 12 hour period.

"It's truly amazing.  We really don't know who is more popular, Tiger Woods or his wife."

Scratch that!  We do know who is more popular when it comes to Internet search.  Tiger Woods wife wins by a landslide.Elin

Nordegren Woods (born January 1, 1980, in Stockholm, Sweden) is a former model.

Elin and her twin sister Josefin had been working as nannies for Swedish golfer Jesper Parnevik when he introduced her to Woods during the 2001 British Open. In November 2003, Tiger and Elin attended the Presidents Cup tournament in South Africa and became officially engaged when Tiger proposed at the luxury Shamwari Game Reserve. On October 5, 2004, Tiger and Elin were married by the 19th hole of an exclusive golf resort in Barbados. The ceremony reportedly cost over $1.5 million. Privacy was achieved by buying out the island's sole helicopter charter company and by booking the entire hotel - 200 rooms ranging in price from $700 to $8,000 per night.

On June 18, 2007, the Woods announced the birth of their daughter, Sam Alexis Woods, early that morning, just a day after Woods finished second in the 2007 U.S. Open.

Controversy erupted last year when an Irish magazine published nude photos claiming to be of Mrs. Woods, when in fact they were photos of an Elin lookalike, Kim Hiott.

The Dubliner issued an apology for the story, saying that they had printed the photos as a "satire of tabloid publishing."

Elin won the lawsuit and as part of the settlement accepted by a Dublin court, The Dubliner must publish its lengthy apology in a variety of venues, including in its next issue. If the magazine fails to meet the conditions the award will be increased to $366,500 and the publishers will have to pay Nordegren Woods’ legal costs.

Geoff Ogilvy Promising Big Payout for Gamblers

Australia's Geoff Ogilvy and Spain's Miguel Angel Jimenez shared the lead on 65 with American Stewart Cink on 66 after the first day of the 2008 World Golf Championships CA Championship.

Ogilvy, as we pointed out yesterday, was listed with 11 to 1 odds to win the Championship at Find betting odds here

Ogilvy, who had a bogey-free round, birdied the first four odd-numbered holes and added another at the eighth to stand five-under at the turn, then added another at the 12th and conquered the 18th for a final birdie.

"I played well, gave myself a lot of chances and I made those chances," he said.

Jimenez opened with an eagle and birdied four of the last five holes, including the 18th, to seize a share of the lead.

"I played well and holed some four-five footers for birdie," said the 44-year-old from Malaga. "When you're hitting it well and holing some putts, you expect to shoot 65."

Australian bookmakers, including Sportingbet, which does maintain a strong presence in that country, stood to get hurt bad by bets placed on Ogilvy.  The good news for Aussie bookies: There were still three days to go and plenty of time for Geoff Ogilvy to fall back; Tiger is right there breathing down everyone else's back; and a lot of the betting down under went on Adam Scott, who was actually the Australian favorite with 10 to 1 odds.

Ogilvy, if he were to win, would pay out $1100 for every $100 bet early on.

Last summer, Irish bookies got hammered when their native son Padraig Harrington, won the British Open with pay out odds that cost the books over $6000 for every $100 wagered.

Adam Scott, Geoff Ogilvy Both Favored to Win 2008 WGC CA Championships Among Australians

Tiger Woods may be the big favorite to win this year's WGC CA Championships but who said Tiger Woods had to be entered into the equation.  For some, betting on Adam Scott or Goeff Ogilvy offers an excellent opportunity since Sportingbet is allowing bets on which non-American player will win the 2008 WGC CA Championship.  Find betting odds here

Adam Scott pays out US$1000 for every US$100 bet.  Geoff Ogilvy pays out US$1100 for every US$100 bet.  They are the third and fourth world favorites, respectively.  South Africa's Ernie Els comes in as the 7 to 1 favorite along with Indo-Fijian golf superstar Vijay Singh.

To date Adam Scott is one of only three golfers born in the 1980s who have made the top ten in the Official World Golf Rankings, the others being Sergio García and Justin Rose, and thus has one of the most promising careers in men's golf. On January 7, 2007, he reached a career high ranking of third with a second place finish at the Mercedes-Benz Championship.

Scott has higher aspirations beyond that of just being the best golfer outside of Tiger Woods.  He wants to beat him.

"It's a great time to be playing," Adam Scott said. "It's awfully hard to beat him, but he doesn't play every week. I know he's winning all the time, but he doesn't win every week, either."

Then the 27-year-old Australian paused long enough that he couldn't contain a wry smile.

"There's no proof of that," Scott said. "But we'll try to change it this week."

Ogilvy turned professional in May 1998 and he won a European Tour card at that year's Qualifying school. He played on the European Tour in 1999 and 2000, finishing 65th in his first season and improving to 48th in his second. He joined the U.S. based PGA Tour in 2001, and finished in the top 100 in each of his first five seasons. His first professional tournament win came in 2005 at the PGA Tour's Chrysler Classic of Tucson. In February 2006 he beat Davis Love III in the final of the 2006 WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship.

Ogilvy won his first major championship at the 2006 U.S. Open, after American Phil Mickelson gave up a two shot lead with three holes to play, becoming the first Australian to win a men's golf major since Steve Elkington at the 1995 PGA Championship. Ogilvy finished his round with a champion's flourish, making improbable pars on each of the last two holes.

"Betting without Tiger Woods in the equation is a great thing," commented Gambling911.com Sports reporter, Don Shapiro.  "It's always assumed he is going to win, but that assumption does not always pay out since Woods wagering usually requires a much bigger risk initially.  With this year's WGC CA Championships, A US$600 bet would be required to win US$500.  Some gamblers would argue that's a steal but Woods is never a 'lock' either and last year demonstrated how golfers with much longer odds like Padraig Harrington and Angel Cabrera ended up paying thousands of dollars on a $100 bet."

In the case of Cabrera, it was well over $6000 at one point and Harrington proved to be the costliest bet of last year at Paddy Power as first reported by Gambling911.com and only recently confirmed by Ireland's largest betting firm.

There are 78 players at this World Golf Championship.
