How Clemson and Alabama Got Here

"We haven't done a thing yet, so let's not act like we've done anything yet," Alabama coach Nate Oats said of the message he had imparted to his team. "Now, if we can beat [North] Carolina, now we've done something."

Grant Nelson converted a go-ahead three-point play with 38 seconds remaining resulting in the first elimination of a number one seed in the tournament as Alabama took down UNC in an 89-87 win.

"We've been working for this all season," said senior forward Grant Nelson, who posted 24 points, 12 rebounds and five blocks. "It's good we got here. It's something at the school, we haven't done, only one other time."

Rylan Griffen added 19 points, tying his career high with five 3-pointers, and Aaron Estrada also scored 19 for the fourth-seeded Crimson Tide (24-11).

Meanwhile Clemson beat Arizona 77-72 to advance to the Elite Eight.

Chase Hunter scored 18 points.  PJ Hall added 17 points for Clemson.

“We have confidence in our team,” said coach Brad Brownell, who's in the Elite Eight for the first time in a 22-year coaching career. “I’ve got an older team. These guys have seen a lot, done a lot and experienced success. And so just really happy that they were able to withstand it, and we executed some things really well down the stretch.”
