Great White Lie: Will Books Honor Phelps Bet With Virtual Shark?

Despite the Great White Shark being favored at -800, gamblers overwhelmingly bet him (or her) to beat US gold medalist swimmer Michael Phelps and he did just that Sunday afternoon as part of the highly anticipated Shark Week festivities.

BetOnline had offered betting on this race, one of the few books to do so.

The whole thing turned out to be a bit of a farce however as Phelps ultimately took on simulated versions of Great Whites based on their swim rates and this frustrated the Twitterverse (as it did us here at Gambling911.com).

One person tweeted

Phelps vs the shark is the biggest let down ever,” one person tweeted.

Another tweeted:

I thought they were gonna have michael phelps swim right next to a real shark. sad to say i am #dissapointed

Bets are still expected to be graded.
