European Online Gambling Firms Want Into U.S. Market: Hopes Are High
Nearly all European online gambling firms, including the poker sites, have shied away from the U.S. market for the past 3 years following passage of the Unlawful Internet Gaming Enforcement Act (UIGEA) back in October 2006. The first step towards appealing that law took place Wednesday with a markup in a House subcommittee. Now it’s off to the House and Senate where further amendments are likely.

HR 2267 Might Have Tough Time in House: Pelosi No Fan
An important milestone was met Wednesday when HR 2267, legislation that looks to fully legalize online poker in the U.S., passed by markup in the House Subcommittee.
Specifically, HR 2267 amends title 31, United States Code, to provide for the licensing of Internet gambling activities by the Secretary of the Treasury, to provide for consumer protections on the Internet, to enforce the tax code, and for other purposes.
Next stop: The House, where HR 2267 author Barney Frank has some degree of sway. But there is one slight obstacle.

New Jersey governor Chris Christie last week announced a decision for the state to take over struggling gambling destination Atlantic City. Casino revenue there is down almost 30 percent from the same period in 2006. Of course, Atlantic City was hit with a double whammy of sorts.
