German Gambling Laws Violate EU Rules
A European Union high court ruled that Germany’s betting restrictions contravened EU law.
The European Court of Justice declared that the rules for the German state betting monopolies were not “consistent and systemic enough” to uphold the argument that restrictions served to protect the public from gambling addiction, the Financial Times of London reported on Wednesday.
In its ruling, the court said the German monopoly advertised extensively to lure customers, undercutting the argument of the states that their monopolies limited addiction.
