Casinos Could Pop Up Everywhere in Florida if New Gambling Laws Get Approval

Last Minute Touchdown for Ohio State Cost Vegas Sportsbooks $100 Million

A last minute touchdown may not have changed the outcome of Saturday night’s Ohio State vs. Northwestern game, but for Vegas and online sportsbooks, it was a definite game changer.

Gambling Addict Who Held Up Betting Shop With Hammer Turns Himself In

A gambling addict flagged down police just hours after he held up a betting shop with a hammer.

The incident occurred August 2 at a Southhampton Ladbrokes. Michael Birch, 30, is charged with the crime.  He escaped with £1,637 in cash.

His defense attorney argued that Birsh should be given mercy for admitting to the crime and apologizing.

Judge Peter Henry said: 'This is a serious offence without question, breaking into a premises, arming yourself and threatening someone and terrifying them, forcing them to hand over the money.'

Mass. Casino Panel Qualifies 2 for Gambling Bids

BOSTON -- (Associated Press) - Massachusetts gambling regulators said Thursday that Mohegan Sun had cleared a required background check and could continue its pursuit of a resort casino in the town of Palmer.

The five-member gaming commission voted unanimously to qualify the Connecticut casino operator, saying agency investigators working with state police had not uncovered any factors that would disqualify the company from bidding.

William Hill Issues Profit Warning

(Reuters) - British bookmaker William Hill said a poor retail performance in its third quarter meant operating profit had fallen 20 million pounds ($32.5 million) below expectations, warning that shortfall may not be recovered by the year end.

Quiet trading in July helped push retail net revenue in the 13 week period to Oct 1 down 4 percent on an underlying basis, the firm said on Thursday, with gross margin wins falling 0.8 percentage points as football results went the way of customers.

Key Cantor Gaming Execs May Have had Role in Sports Betting Probe: Colbert Caves

The New York Times is reporting that federal prosecutors are investigating whether top executives at Cantor Fitzgerald LP's gambling unit participated in the company accepting illegal sports bets.

Cantor Senior Executive Lee Amaitis has been mentioned following a guilty plea entered by former Cantor employee, Mike Colbert.  The former sportsbook director admitted to accepting illegal bets.

Full Tilt Poker Montreal Festival Main Event 2013 Final Table Determined

Day 4 of the Full Tilt Poker Montreal Festival Main Event saw 25 players return and in just six hours the final table of nine was found.

The unfortunate player to bubble the final table was Jeremie Trepanier. Trepanier took the defeat with a smile and left the tournament in an agonizing 10th place (C$21,121).

23500 Petitions Received for Full Tilt Poker Remission Process

Claims administration firm, Garden City Group (GCG), has completed the remission process for payments to Full Tilt Poker players. 

It was reported yesterday (October 1, 2013) that some 1.4 million emails have been received from those still owed money from Full Tilt Poker.  23,500 petitions were also processed.

Full Tilt Poker abruptly exited the US market on April 15, 2011 following a series of indictments.  Last year, the US Government settled with the company and began the process of determining payout distributions.

Iowa Won’t File Charges Against Nuke Boss in Counterfeit Poker Chip Probe

OMAHA, Neb. (Associated Press) — Iowa will take no legal action against the No. 2 officer in charge of U.S. nuclear war-fighting forces who is accused of using counterfeit gambling chips at a casino in the state, officials said Tuesday.

Nonetheless Navy Vice Adm. Tim Giardina could still face federal charges.

Giardina was suspended Sept. 3 while Naval Criminal Investigative Service examines the allegation that he used $1,500 in counterfeit chips at the Horseshoe Casino in Council Bluffs, Iowa in June.
