WSOP No-Limit 2-7 Draw Lowball Fina - Negreanu vs. Volpe: So Who Won?

A handful of big name poker players have made the final table of the World Series of Poker Event #13: No-Limit 2-7 Draw Lowball with the top three finishes all having some degree of name recognition.  These included the likes of Daniel Negreanu and Paul Volpe, the later of whom ultimately won.  All of those playing at the final table had enjoyed past success on the live tournament circuit.

Dreyfus Announces American Poker Awards to be Held in LA

Global Poker Index (GPI) head Alex Dreyfus has announced the first annual American Poker Awards.

The event will be held in Los Angeles, California, at the SLS Hotel in Beverly Hills on February 27, 2015.

The event looks to celebrate the poker industry and help develop the game worldwide by bringing some of the biggest names in the industry together.

"I think we are at the eve of a new boom," Dreyfus told PokerNews explaining how he believes this to be "the perfect time" for an initiative like the American awards."

Macau Gambling Revenue Up 9.3 Percent

HONG KONG – (Reuters) - Macau, the world's casino capital, raked in 32.35 billion patacas (US$4.05bil) in gambling revenue in May, boosted by robust demand from Chinese visitors keen to bet in the country's only legal casino hub.

Growth in Macau, a special administrative region like neighbouring Hong Kong, was up 9.3% in May, lagging analyst estimates of 13-15%.

Jonathan Dimmig Wins 2014 World Series of Poker Millionaire Maker

New York State native Jonathan Dimmig has become the latest poker millionaire after winning the 2014 WSOP Millionaire Maker event.

He bested the 2nd biggest player field in World Series of Poker tournament history to win $1,319,587 in the $1500 buy-in Millionaire Maker.

Tribes Reach Agreement on Internet Poker in California: Opposition Remains

California’s 13 tribes have reached an agreement to allow real money online poker in the state after five years of standoff.  The catch: Only current brick and mortar casinos will be permitted to operate on the Web and that remains a sticking point with other key groups.

Martin Meciar Wins Eureka 4 Rozvadov for €87,600

PokerStars Qualifier Martin Meciar became Slovakia's first ever Eureka champion after beating a 493-player field in Rozvadov to scoop €87,600. The original first prize was six thousands more but Meciar made a heads up deal with Michael-David Passy and then it took him only couple of hands to eliminate his last opponent and seize even €10,000 left for the winner.

Sports Betting Billy Walters on FBI Probe: ‘I Am Innocent of Doing Anything Wrong’

Forbes: Sheldon Adelson Winning His War Against Online Gambling

Forbes.com’s Nathan Vardi argued on Tuesday that casino billionaire and mega GOP donor Sheldon Adelson is now winning his war against Internet gambling.

Ex-Bayern Chief Begins Three-and-a-Half Year Prison Term: Gambled on Markets

The former Bayern FC boos Uli Hoeness began serving his three-and-a-half year prison sentence for evading $28.5 million euros in taxes.  The 62-year-old will serve time at a prison in Landsberg am Lech effective Monday (June 2).

Hoeness admitted to the tax evasion charges back in March.  He was originally facing a sentence of between five and ten years.

"I'm glad that this is all out in the open now," Hoeness said in March. "I deeply regret my wrongdoing. I'm doing everything I can to put this unhappy chapter behind me."

2014 Millionaire Maker Draws Second Largest Turnout in WSOP History

This year’s Millionaire Maker tournament has made history as having the second-largest turnout in World Series of Poker history.

An amazing 7977 individuals entered the event, which featured a $1500 buy-in.  The No-Limit Hold’em tournament will pay out $1,319,587.  Only the 2006 Main Event attracted more entries.

Election Betting in Nevada Opposed by Governor Sandoval

CARSON CITY, Nev. (Associated Press) — Gov. Brian Sandoval has come out against a proposal to make Nevada the first state to permit betting on federal elections.

The Republican governor described himself as "more of a traditionalist" when it comes to betting.

"As I think through it, unless I'm convinced otherwise, it is not something I would support," he told the Las Vegas Sun (http://bit.ly/RQjFSE ) on Friday. "The state has done fine on sports and horse-race betting and other events."

Atlantic Club Casino Purchased by Florida Company TJM

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (Associated Press) — A Florida company bought the former Atlantic Club Casino Hotel on Thursday, and plans to operate it as a non-gambling facility.

TJM Properties paid an undisclosed sum for the casino and its 800-room hotel, which shut down in January.

It is the second acquisition this year of a former Atlantic City casino that the company plans to run as a non-gambling facility. In February, TJM bought the 500-room hotel portion of the former Claridge Hotel Casino, which was part of the Bally's Atlantic City casino, for $12.5 million.

Poker Player Defrauds Bank Out of A$100 Million: Faces 142 Charges

Professional poker player William Jordanou, 55, is accused of providing false documents to the Commonwealth Bank of Australia in order to get about $100 million in loans with three other men.   He faces 142 charges.

Jordanou was acting as a financial adviser to a Scoresby-based accounting firm between the years 2004 and 2013.  He is alleged to have provided the bank with false tax documents, letters of employment and invoices.

His lawyer George Defteros asserted his client would strenuously fight the charges. ‘
