Andy Murray Helps Betfair Smash Record After Slow Football Start

Betfair, the world’s largest betting exchange, revealed on Tuesday that the Wimbledon final was its biggest ever market following reports that the company has gotten off to a slow start with Premier League wagering. 

Betfair.com reports that more than £58 million of bets were taken on the July tennis match in which Murray lost to Roger Federer but ultimately went on to secure his first ever Grand Slam title in New York.

Tension Brewing Between Harry Reid and Dean Heller Over Online Poker Bill

Award-winning journalist Jon Ralston reports that he continues to hear murmurs that an online poker bill is “moving” but that tension may be brewing between Democratic Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, one of the bill’s co-sponsors, and Republican Senator Dean Heller, who is reportedly in charge of soliciting support from fellow Republicans.

Sheldon Adelson Backed PAC Goes After U.S. Rep. John Tierney for Family Gambling Troubles

BOSTON (Associated Press) — Incumbent U.S. Rep. John Tierney is the target of a new television ad from a political action committee bankrolled in part by billionaire casino mogul Sheldon Adelson.

The ad focuses on the Salem Democrat’s family troubles.

Record Attendance at 2012 Borgata Poker Open: $1.9 Million Prize Pool

A record 3,705 players are taking part in this year’s Borgata Poker Open at the Atlantic City casino with the same name. 

The 10th annual tournament will feature just shy of a $1.9 million prize pool. 

Last year, a mere 1,8000 took part in the $500 buy-in tournament.

Casino Mogul Steve Wynn Awarded $20 Million in Slander Suit Against Joe Francis

A jury has awarded casino magnate Steve Wynn $20 million in his slander suit against porn purveyor Joe Francis. 

An L.A. Count Superior Court jury determined that the “Girls Gone Wild” video franchise owner, Francis, had knowingly made false statements against Wynn.  Francis had told reporters that Wynn threatened to kill him with a shovel over the head and bury him in the desert.  The jury found that Francis acted maliciously in making such statements.  

"He told lies. He used the media to get it out there," said Wynn's lead lawyer, Barry Langberg, in lauding the verdict.

2012 EPT Barcelona Champion Mikalai Pobal is August’s Poker Player of the Month

Quadjacks.com has named 2012 EPT Barcelona champion Mikalai Pobal as their August Poker Player of the Month.

The Belarus-born player managed to beat out Finnish online poker phenom Ilari “Ziigmund” Sahamies to take the EPT honor last month.

Zynga Looks at Mobile Gambling and Online Gambling to Diversify

(NASDAQ) - Zynga ( ZNGA ) is expanding into mobile gaming and is looking to enter into real money online gambling. It recently tied up with Nokia to add Draw Something and Zynga Poker to Nokia feature phones such as Nokia Asha Touch and the Nokia Series 40 range. The games will feature in the phones released in Q3 and will cover nearly 100 million users. Zynga game apps are already available for smartphones and the company plans to expand into feature phones to increase its user base and target emerging economies.

Poker Room at Gulfstream Casino Now Open Following Fish Tank Fiasco

The poker room at Gulfstream Park Racing & Casino in South Florida has finally reopened after a ruptured 13,000 gallon fish tank caused extensive damage to the facilities last Sunday.

 

New carpeting, walls, artwork and furniture have been installed since the flooding occurred, according to Mike Couch, Gulfstream's Director of Gaming.

"It's unfortunate we had to close five days, but we're very grateful to our guests for their patience and understanding," Couch said in a Saturday release.

New Jersey Says Professional Leagues do Not Have Standing in Sports Betting Suit

TRENTON, N.J. — (Associated Press) - A court filing claims sports gambling is so widespread already that New Jersey’s plans to implement it won’t cause any harm to college and pro sports leagues.

The argument is contained in a court filing that seeks to dismiss a lawsuit filed by the four major pro leagues and the NCAA.

WSOP and Punta Cana Classic Staff Fund Rising for Family of Late Poker Dealer Casey Jones

The poker community is still mourning one of its own following the tragic death of 29-year-old father of three-year-old twin daughters, Casey Jones.  While traveling with his family in the Southwest USA succumb to a mysterious disease that rendered him unconscious and ultimately took his life.

Partouche Poker Reneges on €5 Million Prize Guarantee: Claim No Such Prize Advertised

Billed as the “biggest poker tournament in Europe,” The Partouche Poker Tour (PPT), now in its 5th year, will no longer be “guaranteeing” a €5 million prize pool but has since altered that “guarantee” to €4.3 million, much to the chagrin of those already playing in the event.  This begs the question:  “What’s the point of guaranteeing something that you can’t guarantee”?

Fed Paves Way for Legalized Online Poker in US

Some of the online poker’s foremost experts tell Michael Shapiro of the San Francisco Chronicle that this “game of skill” is well on its way to becoming legalized in the US.  But don’t look towards the federal government and a GOP platform that wants extended Web gambling prohibition as the main obstacle getting in the way.  The states will have the final say and some just say “No”.

The WSOPE 2013 kicks off in Cannes, France on September 21 with the €50,000 re-entry High Roller beginning on October 2 and taking place over a three day period.

Zynga Introduces Sports Betting With Las Vegas Style Sportsbook Game

Zynga has teamed up with developer RocketPlay to deliver a “Vegas-like” sportsbook experience for its customers just in time for the new NFL season. 

According to a release, Sports Casino offers "an authentic Las Vegas-style sportsbook experience" wherein players can bet on live sporting events like baseball and football as well as play video poker, slots, and blackjack.
