Preakness Stakes 2012 Post Position Draw Not as Critical as With Derby

The Preakness Stakes 2012 post position draw doesn’t quite draw the attention that we find with the Kentucky Derby.

Drawing the rail in the Preakness is not as detrimental as with the Derby.  Never-the-less, no horse has won inside the 4-hole since 1994.  And prior to that, no horse had won inside the rail since 1960.

In the last four Preakness races, the No. 7 post position has produced two winners.

This year’s Derby marked a milestone as far as post positions are concerned with I’ll Have Another the first horse to win from the 19 spot.

The Preakness Stakes post position draw takes place at 6 pm EST May 16, 2012.

Horse racing has always been a sport built on routine. Certain days meant certain tracks, the form guide landed when it landed, and if you missed a race, you simply caught up later. Following the sport required a bit of commitment, a bit of patience, and often a bit of guesswork.
