Forever Young comes into this year's race as the defending Classic champion, seeking to become only the second horse to win consecutive editions.
He has 12 victories in 16 career starts, including the 2025 Classic. Trainer Yoshito Yahagi and jockey Ryusei Sakai won this race together last year.
Sovereignty has seven wins in 12 career starts, with more than $6.8 million in earnings.
Trainer Bill Mott has won the Classic twice. Sovereignty won the 2025 Kentucky Derby and Belmont Stakes and returned to winning form in the 2026 Whitney. His recent foot abscess and time between races are the main concerns.
The 2026 Kentucky Derby and Belmont Stakes winner, Golden Tempo, is already proven at 1¼ miles. Trainer Cherie DeVaux and jockey Jose Ortiz face a major test against older horses, but his 4-1 reported odds are worth comparing with the favorites.
