Jordan Spieth 6-1

The favorite to win in Houston is Spieth who nearly won this event a year ago. It has not been a great start to the season for Spieth who has been just a little bit off. He will be looking to get his top form back in advance of the Masters. Even with his poor start he still has four Top 25 finishes in his last five starts.

Henrik Stenson 12-1

Stenson didn’t play last week at the WGC Match Play after tying for third at the Arnold Palmer Invitational. He has three top 25 finishes in his last three appearances in Houston. He tied for second in this event in 2013.

Rickie Fowler 12-1

He didn’t win at the Match Play tournament but he is still playing well. He has six top 10 finishes in his last eight starts. He finished sixth in this event two years ago.

Dustin Johnson 14-1

The big hitting Johnson played well last week at the Match Play and he has five top 20 finishes in his last six starts. The short Houston course definitely gives him an edge.

Phil Mickelson 16-1

Mickelson has done really well in this event through the years with five Top 20 finishes including a win in 2011. He has played well in recent weeks and a win in Houston is not out of the question.

Tournament Notes

This event takes place at the Golf Club of Houston which is a par 72 that measures 7,441 yards. This course is a great setup for the upcoming Masters at Augusta which is why many of the world’s top players are electing to play. J.B. Holmes is the defending champion as he won in a playoff against Jordan Spieth and Johnson Wagner last year. The winner of this event gets an automatic entry into the Masters. Golf Channel and NBC provide the TV coverage of this event.

Golf Predictions

Spieth could win this event but I think he is overvalued at odds of 6-1 so I will take Fowler and Stenson at odds of 12-1 and for my longshot I will take Jimmy Walker at odds of 35-1.

2016 Shell Houston Open

There are some big names who are expected to play in this event including Keegan Bradley, Shane Lowry and Charles Schwartzel. There is also a chance that world number one Jordan Spieth could choose to play in this event and Phil Mickelson could also be in the field. The 2016 Shell Houston Open will be played the week of March 31st-April 3rd on the Golf Club of Houston Tournament Course. This will be the 11th time the event has been played on the Tournament Course. The Golf Channel and NBC will be televising the action. The Golf Club of Houston is the site for this event that takes place in Humble, Texas which is located just northeast of Houston. The course has hosted the Shell Houston Open since 2003.

Jordan Spieth is listed as the favorite to win the Shell Houston Open that starts on Thursday, March 31st. It used to be that the last tournament before the Masters didn’t see many top players in it but that is definitely not the case this year with almost half of the Top 25 players in the world expected to play. Spieth is listed as the favorite at odds of 6-1 with five other players listed with odds between 12-1 and 20-1 including world #6 Rickie Fowler.

Iowa State: Are They The Underdogs To Look For In March Madness?

They may be defined as “underdogs” or “Cinderella teams”, a term that is usually saved for teams that have little to no chance of winning even a single game during the NCAA Tournament. Teams like Loyola Marymount (1990), George Mason (2006), Davidson (2008), VCU (2011), UConn (2014), and Loyola Chicago (2018) come to mind when conversations turn toward the most surprising tournament runs in recent memory.
