Hoppertunity comes into this race trained by Bob Baffert.  He’s expected to run well at the 1 1/4-mile distance.

He won the all-important Rebel Stakes and will start from the 11 post position, which is decent but has only produced two winners since 1930.  It could be worse.

Ahhh and there is this little factoid:  Hoppertunity did not race at the age of two.  Apollo in 1882 is the only Derby winner who did not race as a 2-year-old.

It’s interesting to note that Hoppertunity had the third shortest odds after Wicked Strong after the post position draw.  This is primarily because Wicked Strong will start from the dreaded 20 spot, which has only produced one winner since 1930.
